The town of Fraser was awarded a $2 million grant by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs on April 2 for the Victoria Village Workforce Community housing project.
The money comes from the department’s Strong Communities Infrastructure Grant Program, which provides grants to local governments to build infrastructure needed to develop affordable housing that meets community needs.
The press release from the town writes that the Fraser Assistant Town Manager Sarah Catanzarite played a “pivotal role” in securing this grant.
“Catanzarite’s dedication and expertise were instrumental in navigating the competitive grant application process, highlighting the Town of Fraser’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable housing solutions for its residents,” the press release stated.
Senator Dylan Roberts offered his congratulations to the town in an email.
“This is very exciting news and certainly well deserved,” Roberts wrote. “It is encouraging to see funds from a bill that both Speaker McCluskie and I led in 2022 result in funds being awarded to you all. Thank you, DOLA, for recognizing Fraser’s efforts to provide more affordable workforce housing in their community.”
About Victoria Village
The town of Fraser purchased Victoria Village in 2023 for $3.8 million, with a Colorado Division of Housing grant called Operation Turnkey. This grant allowed the town to pursue attainable housing on the property. Currently, groundbreaking is slated for September 2024, and the project is located at the intersection of Park Avenue and Zerex Street. Fifty percent of the units in the development must be available to people earning 120% or less than the area median income. The other units are unrestricted, but the town would also like to keep those at the same median income limit. More information is available on the town’s website.
