Trump a Threat to Constitutional Republic and American Values
February 12, 2026January 20th President Trump will have been in office one year. This is my assessment of him and 2025. I emphatically contend that everything Trump says and does directly or indirectly affects Grand County and Colorado. I could give examples for everything I state below but don’t have the space. I think he has done very little to help the average citizen or our country. It seems he is motivated by his ego and quest for personal power and wealth, hate, cruelty, ignorance, revenge and retribution. We have government mostly by social media tweets and TV sound-bites. He hurls unfounded accusations and slurs against anyone he doesn’t like or disagrees with. He praises and woos dictators and has alienated our long-standing allies. He engages in international diplomacy with threats, intimidation, insults and tariffs. At home he has attacked or sold-out free speech, the free press, most media, the right to protest peacefully, educational institutions, the environment, climate, science, health and research. With federal firings we are seeing the greatest government brain-drain probably in our history that may take decades to restore. He has a strangle-hold on the Republicans in Congress and the Republican Party. He is doing much of this with the aid of the six conservative justices on the U.S. Supreme Court. Recently Trump stated that only “his morality” can stop him. That is a chilling statement. How sad that he is president for the 250th anniversary of the United States. Trump is the antithesis of our Founding Fathers and the American Revolution. To me he is the greatest threat to the future of our constitutional republic.
