GRANBY, CO — Grand County Democrats are proud to announce the successful conclusion of its 2026 Precinct Caucuses and County Assembly on Saturday. Participation exceeded the expectations of the Grand County Democrats leadership. The party gathered to choose precinct organizers and elect delegates to the higher level multi-district assemblies, including State Assembly. A record number of attendees signed up to serve as election judges and precinct organizers. Attendees sat around lunch tables at the East Grand Middle School and discussed the issues that they feel the Democratic Party in Grand County should concentrate on. These issues will form the Grand County Democrats platform for the 2026 election cycle.

The highlight and most unexpected moment of the day came during the County Assembly when Liz Newsom, current Chair of the Grand County Democrats, was nominated from the floor as a candidate for Grand County Clerk and Recorder. The nomination was met with a standing ovation and cheers from the assembly. Newsom enthusiastically accepted the nomination.

Chris Cheevers, a Precinct Organizer from Hot Sulphur Springs, noted that the event demonstrated the effectiveness of the grassroots process in elevating locally trusted candidates. “This was my first caucus and assembly and I see now how this process really is community driven,” saidCheevers. “Seeing Liz Newsom nominated from the floor reinforces my faith in a system that ensures the people shaping our future are chosen by their neighbors, not political insiders. Our community is showing up to support leaders they actually know and trust.”

As county assemblies wrap up across the state by March 14, the focus now shifts to the State Assembly in Pueblo on March 28. There, Democrats from every corner of Colorado will gather to finalize the primary ballot and organize for the 2026 general election.

“We are better off when more people participate and have their voices heard,” added Grand Lake resident Erin Lakai, “The momentum we’re building in Grand County is just the beginning of our work to advocate for our community, our economy, and our environment.”
